About Me

I’m Jared Dahl Aldern, Ph.D., an environmental historian/historical ecologist and fire practitioner. I have worked in academia, K-12 education, and tribal government. I’ve collaborated with and learned from Indigenous people throughout California, and I’ve taught Native American history at Palomar College, San Diego State University, and Stanford University. I am currently a lead investigator and research associate with the West on Fire project of the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West, and I am a co-founder and the program coordinator of the Sierra-Sequoia Burn Cooperative, a coalition of four California Native American Tribes, two non-profit organizations, private landowners, and other prescribed fire practitioners.
